2015 Iridium Partner Conference

Published: Thu 19 February 2015 | by Martin Wiesner

Martin Wiesner and Alan Tait represented Stream Technologies at the 2015 Iridium Partner Conference (IPC) in Miami Beach. What was expected to be a dreary and overcast week turned out to be mostly sunny and pleasant.

Opposite the hotel where IPC was hosted there was a yacht and boat show, giving everyone a glimpse into the way billionaires spent their money. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, IPC was too busy to leave much time for pondering about boats, helicopters and boats with helicopters!

Stream had a booth at IPC for the first time this year. It proved to be a big success, judging by the number of old friends who popped in to see what we've been up to as well as new companies interested in our connectivity and platform solutions. It was encouraging to see how satellite resellers and service providers realise that the future is outside of the silos that for so long characterised the satellite industry.

These days it's all about collaboration, partnerships and being on the 'menu' of whoever is involved with IoT and Smart cities. Gone are the times where individual operators or their resellers pitch independently for different parts of a project.

The modern connectivity buyer is not interested in the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of different technologies - he or she wants access to a wide range of connectivity on a single platform and billing system, and it needs to be future proof. This led to interesting discussions with satellite resellers, and users, who need to become part of a wider connectivity ecosystem in order to stay relevant.

Stream's ability to make this happen was well received and we're looking forward to forging new partnerships (and friendships) before next year's event.

Martin and Alan will also be part of the team exhibiting at Mobile World Congress on the 2nd of March (Hall 7 Stand 7C18) and also participating in a ground breaking Smart City Demo at ARM's Stand (Hall 6 Stand 6C10), with IoT-X TM partners (ARM, wot.io, ThingWorx, B&B Electronics, Multi-Tech). Please get in touch if you will be attending.
